Chapter 816

"What's all this talk about bothering or not bothering?" Sherilyn playfully rolled her eyes. "You're such a phony!"

Rebecca White was one of the few friends she had in Sunhaven. When she first returned, Rebecca had been a

tremendous help. "Ha ha!" Rebecca laughed. "A little politeness never hurts, right? Otherwise, it just seems

rude."

That day, Gilbert accompanied Caroline to the hospital for a follow-up appointment.

Unfortunately, the results were discouraging.

Despite undergoing treatment, Caroline's leg showed little improvement.

The doctor used careful language, "Let's try a different approach and see how it goes."

But deep down, they both knew. The longer this dragged on, the slimmer their hopes became.

Leaving the consultation room, Caroline looked defeated, her eyes downcast and silent.

Gilbert was both worried and filled with guilt, his mood equally heavy, though he couldn't show even a hint of it

in front of her. "Caroline."

Gilbert bent slightly to meet her eyes, his voice low and soothing, "The doctor said we have to take it slow.

Keeping a positive outlook can really help with your recovery." "Really?"

A small smile formed on Caroline's lips. "Can my leg really heal? Will | be able to stand again?"

"Of course."

"And..." Caroline looked up at him, her eyes moist with tears, "will you always be there, always stay by my side?"

"Of course."

Gilbert nodded again, without a moment's hesitation.

He couldn't refuse.

Firstly, and most importantly, Caroline was injured because of him. Secondly, after breaking up with his brother

and moving out of the Johnson family home, she had only him to rely on. "Okay, I'll listen to you." Caroline

nodded, her voice slightly choked, "I'm glad | have you."

Gilbert pushed her wheelchair out, trying to lighten the mood, "Is there anything specific you'd like to eat

tonight?"

"Well..." Caroline thought for a moment, "We haven't dined out in a while. How about the Blue Plate Diner?"

"Sounds good."

Gilbert had no objections, "Then, Blue Plate Diner it is."

Tonight, Sherilyn was hosting a dinner at the Blue Plate Diner.

It was to make amends for an incident involving a false accusation by Yuna, inviting Galen and Edgar for a meat

along with Sophia, Jenna, and Rebecca White-a big family gathering. en

Everyone was already there except for Edgar.

Inside the dining room, Sherilyn was discussing Rebecca's job situation with Galen, who now managed the Martin

family's supermarket chain.

"Galen, do you think you could find a

position for Rebecca?" Sherilyn asked. Even though it wasn't her field Rebecca urgently needed a job that paid.

Galen agreed without hesitation, "No problem, sis. If you're asking, how could | say no?"

"Thanks a lot."

Having secured her first job, Rebecca was immensely grateful, winking at Sherilyn and whispering in her ear.

"Your brother really looks out for you."

"Galen is good. Being full siblings doesn't guarantee the snature."

Like Malvina and her mother, Tania Clayton.

While they were talking, Sherilyn's phone rang. She answered it as she walked outside.

"Are you close? I'll cout to meet you."

"No need," Edgar chuckled on the other end. "It's not like I've never been to the Blue Plate Diner before."

"It's different," Sherilyn insisted. "I'm the host tonight; | have to act the part. I'm coming out."

As she spoke, she had already reached the entrance.

The wind had picked up outside, signaling a change in weather. It looked like it was going to rain soon.

Hanging up the phone, Sherilyn held. down her tousled hair and hugged her arms around herself. The wind was

strong, chilling her to the bone.

A black Bentley pulled into the yard, stopping at the steps of the entrance.
