“Will do,” Jessica replied, grabbing her car keys and heading out.

Jessica stood still, caught off guard for a second. She hadn't thought he’d be so upfront so soon. She eased the
door closed behind her, acting clueless, and trailed after him. “You're Mel?”
“That's me,” Melvin confirmed with a nod. His eyes swept across the room—soft rose petals, a flickering scented
candle, and dim, warm lighting. Every detail was carefully planned.
“You lied to me?” Jessica asked, keeping up her act.
