Chapter 608
From the moment Sarah woke, she knew something was wrong. Her head throbbed with splitting pain.
She felt her forehead - no fever, but she'd clearly caught a chill from the previous night.
Struggling to sit up, she took sclothes from her suitcase. Thanks to the protection of the case, most weren't
damp, though the outermost garments smelled of mildew.
Sarah found several thick pieces and layered them on herself, finally feeling a bit better.
"Achoo!" She couldn't help sneezing.
Both nostrils felt congested - classic cold symptoms.
Her previous cold from being kidnapped and caught in the rain hadn't fully healed, and now seemed to be
worsening.
Her legs felt weak and unsteady, as if walking through an ice cellar. Not only her legs, but her abdomen had
begun to ache too. Despite wearing many layers, none were truly warm.
The icy cold seeped through her feet into her body. Sarah felt as if her legs had plunged into endless ice.
The waves of pain from her abdomen told her this wasn't just a simple chill.

Sarah wondered briefly if her period had arrived, but quickly dismissed the thought. She'd had it at the end of
last month - it couldn't be tyet.
The most likely cause was the bone-deep cold from last night. Women's bodies were vulnerable, and the
stomach was especially susceptible to cold.
Sarah clutched her abdomen. Though her body felt like ice, beads of sweat formed on her forehead.
Finally, she couldn't hold out any longer. Holding her stomach with one hand, she slumped over her office desk.
When Mr. Lambert cin with sdocuments, he noticed something was wrong. "Miss Sanders? Are you
alright?"
"I'm... fine," Sarah answered.
But things weren't fine at all. The pain in her abdomen grew increasingly intense, making even sitting difficult.
Sarah felt herself slipping into a semi-conscious state. Everything before her grew dim and blurry.
Her surroundings gradually faded, leaving only a few shouting voices in her ears.
Pain. Her entire body was consumed by it.
As her consciousness dimmed, she found herself in a vast white space, empty and boundless, slightly unsettling.
But those emotions meant nothing to Sarah now. At the edge of the whiteness, she could see a woman smiling at
her.
Finally, Sarah's awareness gradually dispersed. She passed out.
