Chapter 1797:
“That's a bridge I'll cross when | get there,” Lowell said, a trace of bitterness in his voice. “I can’t afford to worry
about that right now.” He held Shaun's gaze, a heavy silence settling between them. Finally, he sighed and
added, “I'm sorry, Shaun.”
Shaun’s expression remained unreadable as he asked, “What are you apologizing for?”
“For ruining your wedding with Tracy. For bringing Dolores there. I'm truly sorry.”
The emotion drained from Shaun's face, his expression going blank. “Tracy and | could have been happy. But that
chance is gone now.”

Shaun studied him, clearly surprised. “Did you finally cto your senses?”
Lowell exhaled, a grim sort of acceptance settling over him. “I suppose so. After everything that’s happened,
how could I not?”
Lowell and Shaun talked late into the evening, their conversation finally ending as the sun sank below the
horizon.
Stepping out into the hall, Lowell turned to Elyse. “We are done. You can go now.”
Elyse studied him, then asked, “Aren’t you going to see Tracy?”
Lowell shook his head. “No. Tracy and | are over. Moreover, seeingwouldn't do her any good. It would only
upset her more.”
Elyse noticed a change in him. He had once been arrogant, but now he seemed much calmer and more
thoughtful.
As Lowell pivoted to depart, he paused mid-step, a flicker of doubt crossing his face. Turning back to Elyse, he
said, “There’s something | would like Tracy to know. Would you mind passing it on?”
Elyse gave a gentle nod. “Of course, what is it?”
“Tell her I'm truly sorry. | messed up. | won't trouble her anymore... and | genuinely wish her all the happiness in
the world.”
With those words hanging in the air, Lowell strode off, never once looking back. Little did he know, Tracy was
mere feet away, tucked behind a newspaper and a wide-brimmed hat, catching every word.
Elyse spun around to face Tracy, letting out a soft sigh. “You heard all that, didn’t you?”

Tracy dipped her head in acknowledgment. “Yeah, | heard everything.”
“He sounded like he meant it,” Elyse mused. “I reckon he’s finally ready to let go and move on.”
