Chapter 1027: The sting and her tears had sapped Joy's strength, and as the medicine took hold, her little body grew heavy, eyes fluttering shut in sleep. From a short distance, Hadley observed in silence, the knot of worry in her chest unraveling, the anxious fire within her finally dimming. Eric looked up, seizing the chance to ask about Joy's state.
"What's wrong with her?" "Viral infection," Hadley replied, arms folded, her stare drifting somewhere distant. “Joy's immune system has always been frail compared to other kids. Without a cure, this could spiral out of control anytime." Eric's expression darkened, a fracture splitting his calm facade.
After a quiet beat, he whispered, "She'll pull through. She has to." It wasn't clear if he was convincing himself or Hadley.

Though subtle, Hadley caught it instantly, her brow creasing—she had a gut feeling it was Linda.
Eric shot her a glance, balancing Joy with one arm while fishing out his phone with the other.
The number of Linda's hospital's nurse station flashed on the screen.
His eyebrow twitched as he met Hadley's eyes.
She scowled, turning her head aside, irritation plain on her face. "Hadley..." Eric wavered for a moment, but before the ringing stopped, he picked up.
"Hello," he said, keeping his voice low to not rouse Joy.
"Mr. Flynn! It's an emergency! Miss Harris is in a panic-she's threatening to leap off the building!" The nurse's words struck Eric like a bolt, his eyes quivering with alarm. "Okay, I understand!" He hung up and turned to Hadley, his look desperate. "Hadley... I've got to head there. Joy's asleep now, I won't be long..." "How long is 'not long'?" Hadley brushed past his plea, her gaze icy. "Joy could wake up at any second. You just swore you'd stay by her side!" "Hadley, I..." Eric floundered, caught in a vise. "I don't want to go, but Linda..." "What about her?" Hadley interrupted, her voice sharp.
"She..." Eric faltered.
Before he could finish, Hadley cut in, eyeing him sharply. "Fine, I'll tag along. Let's see what circus she's putting on now!" She glanced at Melba. "Melba, watch Joy. I'll be quick!" "Alright," Melba replied, stepping up to take Joy from Eric's arms. The tension in the room thickened as Melba's nerves rattled under the weight of it all.
Hadley marched out first, pausing to throw a look back at Eric. "Well? You coming?" "Hadley..." Eric hesitated, tslipping away. If she insisted on joining, so be it.
When they arrived, they shoved open the hospital room door. Linda m perched on the windowsill, her fragile frteetering dangerously close to the edge. Hadley took in the scene and let out a sharp, scornful laugh. Linda was at it again-staging a suicide leap this time?
"What's all this?" Eric's voice boomed with rage as he berated the nurses and caregiver "How could you let her climb onto the windowsill?"
"Mr. Flynn, Miss Harris tricked us into stepping out...". The nurse's defense was weak Linda's temper was infamous across the ward.
