After a moment's hesitation, Eileen got out of the car and quickened her pace, retrieving a doll hidden beneath the trees. There was a small sticky note on it, adorned with familiar, elegant handwriting.
"Merry Christmas. Don't worry about me." Eileen's fingers trembled as she clutched the note. Her breath hitched, a smile playing at her lips even though her heart grew heavy.
Milford was far too clever. He must have realized they had been searching for him.
Or perhaps he had caught wind of Presley's surveillance efforts.
"Wow!" Gabriela's excited squeal pierced the air as she bounded over, skidding to a halt a few feet from the doll. Her eyes widened with delight. "So pretty!" The doll dwarfed her, making it impossible for her to lift. She turned to Eileen, her eyes shining with hope. "Mom, is this for me?" Eileen picked up the doll and replied to Gabriela with a gentle smile, "Yes, it's a gift from your uncle Milford. Let's take it to your room and find a nice spot for it, alright?" galhosts exclusive updates Gabriela's face lit up with unbridled joy. She twirled in excitement before dashing off to her room, exclaiming, "Big doll!" Eileen slipped the note into her pocket, her mind lingering on the words as she carried the doll inside. Before she could make it far, Bryan, who had finished carrying the luggage upstairs, noticed her struggling with the oversized doll. With a quick frown, he took it from her without a word. He didn't ask where it cfrom. "When did you figure out Milford was in Onaland?" Eileen asked, sitting on the sofa as she peeled off her coat. She gazed up at Bryan, her expression calm but curious.
Bryan's hands worked methodically to unwrap the doll as he replied, "His early release, coupled with him not contacting anyone, raised suspicions. I guessed then that he was still in Onaland." It made sense. Without anyone to collect him and lacking proper identification, it was unlikely Milford had gone far.
He paused, considering his next words carefully. "I'm aware of your search efforts, your enlistment of e Phoebe and the others. That's why I pulled back my investigators. There's no need to dig too deep. Milford will surface when he's ready."
He believed Eileen was much more composed now than she had been when Milford had disappeared after his release from prison. He knew she could handle the truth now.
Eileen was quiet for a moment, processing the information. She hadn't anticipated Bryan had known this for so long, but she decided not to push the matter further. "Alright. Your ded with your your work, and I'll keep coordinating with Phoebe and the others. If anything new comes up, I'll keep you in the loop. But..." She hesitated, her brows knitting together. "Presley might have already reached out to Milford. We have to stay cautious." This was precisely why she had enlisted the help of the Meyer family to investigate this.
