Chapter 1477:
“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Jessica lifted her chin slightly, searching his face for a hint of honesty.
“I really appreciate that you have always been kind to me,” Melvin said softly, each word chosen with care. His
grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly. “In my heart, you've always been someone special.”
“So, when did you start liking me?” Jessica's voice was light, but her eyes searched his face with quiet
insistence.
Melvin glanced at her briefly before focusing ahead and starting the car in silence.
Jessica blinked, her brows drawing together. What was going on now? “Do you want the truth, or should I tell you
something nice just to make you happy?” Melvin finally asked after they'd driven a few blocks.
“Of course the truth,” Jessica replied, folding her arms stubbornly. “What's the point of hearing a lie?”
“I realized | was in love with you after you confessed your feelings to me,” Melvin admitted quietly, the weight of
the moment pressing on his chest. Before Jessica had told him her feelings, he had never really stopped to
examine his emotions or think seriously about marriage, love, or anything in between.
Jessica wasn’t shocked, but curiosity sparkled in her gaze. “Then why did you say earlier that you'd likedfor
along time?”

“They are unfriendly. If they knew you were the one who pursued me, they'd mock you.” Melvin's gaze darkened
as he recalled her conversation with Nyla. “I didn’t want them talking about you like that.”
A girl confessing her feelings after years of secretly loving someone should be a story of bravery and romance,
but more often than not, people turned it into gossip.
Melvin didn’t want Jessica’s love story turned into someone else’s amusement. A soft warmth bloomed in
Jessica's heart, her lips curling into a tender smile.
Keeping his eyes on the road, Melvin asked, “Has Nyla always been like that with you?”
“Today was the first time. Usually, she just teasedfor not having a boyfriend,” Jessica said, her voice
thoughtful. “But | don’t know what got into her today. She was just different.”

Nyla had always been annoying, talkative, constantly changing boyfriends, but she'd never gone this far before.
Still, Jessica would rather deal with someone like Nyla—blunt, direct, and upfront—than someone fake and
manipulative.
“Melvin,” Jessica said suddenly, breaking her own thoughts.
“Yeah?” Melvin glanced at her quickly, then focused back on the road.
