“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Jessica asked, nudging him gently.
“If you're really that eager to meet someone’s parents... maybe meet my boss’s—" Melvin trailed off mid-

Seeing the seriousness etched across Melvin’s face, Jessica chose not to push any further.

“Is this because of my past?” Jessica asked, starting to stir the pot.
Melvin looked slightly thrown.
Standing her ground, Jessica spoke with conviction. “Are you saying no because I've fooled around with other
men before?”
“If you hadn't brought it up, | wouldn't have even remembered,” Melvin said, straightening his back as he
unlocked his phone. “Sendthe details of everyone you've dated. I'll get them all tested.”
Jessica stared at him, speechless.
