Chapter 771
Little Lucy blinked her big, innocent eyes, looked earnestly at Marguerite, then pointed at Hayes, bursting into
laughter:
"It's because, | just can't bring myself to bite Hayes! So, | guess | had to bite Manley!"
Marguerite: "..
Silence fell once again.
What kind of explanation was that?
Why did it feel like this little munchkin was off her rocker?
Marguerite was still trying to piece together the events leading up to this moment when Manley, perhaps feeling
wronged or maybe because his dignity was hurt from the bite, started crying out loud unexpectedly. He sobbed
and shouted, his face a mess of tears, looking utterly pitiful.

"Ms. Marguerite, she's a little loony! | need a rabies shot! Taketo get a rabies shot, please! Waaah~"
Marguerite immediately corrected him sternly, "Manley! You need to be nice to younger kids, you can't talk like
that!"
Manley, puffed up like a little balloon in anger, was heartbroken but didn't want to upset Marguerite. So, he
muttered under his breath, feeling aggrieved, "I was being nice... It's her who wasn't... | didn't do anything to
her, she just suddenly..."
While the little guy was still mumbling to himself, the office door was gently pushed open from the outside.
As if drawn by an invisible force, Marguerite's gaze involuntarily followed.
She saw a man with a tall figure, wearing a loose sky-blue shirt paired with snug jeans.
His face partially concealed by a sleek black mask, Marguerite could only see his broad forehead and a pair of
bright eyes.
Suddenly, Marguerite felt a pang in her chest, as if a heavy hammer had struck her heart hard, causing her both
pain and suffocation.
Why was she experiencing such indescribable emotions?
Pain!
Her heart ached!
She stared at the man, clutching her chest, when the little girl by her side joyfully leaped into the man's arms,
cooing:
"Daddy! You're finally here! It's been three whole hours since | last saw you, | missed you so much!"
The man's eyes were devoid of laughter as he quietly embraced his daughter and turned to inquire about what
had happened.
He seemed not to notice Marguerite, yet she stood not far from him, observing every detail.
Even with the mask, Marguerite could still admire his straight nose and luminous eyes.
His eyes were truly captivating, the upper eyelids slightly thin, the corners elongated, and just beneath the
eyelids were faint, charming bags.
For sreason, Marguerite felt a strange emotion stirring within her.
She thought the man's eyes reminded her of Frederick's, with a glint that was
more enticing than both the stars and the moon.
Suddenly, the shape of the man's nose and lips, hidden behind the mask, began
to morph into Frederick's features in Marguerite's eyes.
His every move, his mannerisms, seemed eerily similar to Frederick's.
Was he back?
Could it be that he had returned?
This long-lost feeling was almost suffocating Marguerite.
Unable to control herself, she stepped forward, reached out, and pulled the mask
off the man's face.
